Planners, venues and the people behind Cabo's events — for celebrations that need to work, not just photograph well.

Los Cabos hosts an extraordinary number of weddings for a town its size, and the difference between the good ones and the difficult ones is almost never the venue. It is the planner, the timeline, the wind plan, and whether the team has worked together before.

We cover the people who carry events here: planners, caterers, florists, musicians and the venues that let them do their job.

What actually decides how the day goes

The wind. An open tent, a string quartet and a four o’clock beach ceremony are three decisions that can fight each other, and exposed beaches here are windier than the photographs suggest. Ask what the wind plan is before you ask to see flowers — a team that has one will describe it without hesitating.

Whether the team has worked together. A planner who has run the same caterer, florist and sound engineer a dozen times will solve a problem you never hear about. A group assembled for the first time on your date will bring the problem to you, at seven in the evening, while you are being photographed.

The paperwork. A ceremony on a public beach is not the same permission as one inside a hotel’s own grounds. Anyone who waves that away is not the person who will be dealing with it.

The month. Late summer and early autumn are hurricane season. They are also when the town is emptiest and cheapest. That is a real trade and worth making with open eyes rather than discovering in August.

The sunset. It does the lighting, and it does not move. Everything else in the timeline arranges itself around it.

Who is here

A planner, for the whole weekend: design, production and the year of decisions in front of it, at the properties people ask for by name.

And the food and hospitality around the wedding — welcome dinners, rehearsal dinners, bachelorette weekends, the parties either side of the day — cooked in the house your group has already rented.

Still to come: caterers, florists, musicians and the venues that let them do their job, each one chosen the same way as everything else on this network, because we would put our own event in their hands. If you run one of those, tell us about it.

What a Los Cabos wedding actually costs

"How much is a wedding at Esperanza?" has no answer, and the vendors quoting you one are guessing. Here is how a Los Cabos wedding budget is actually built: the four levers that move it, the costs that only appear once your guest list is real, and the one question to ask a planner about their own fee.
